Thoughts on new movement standards...

mercredi 24 janvier 2018

:welcome:I am interested in hearing peoples thoughts on some of the movement standards changing...

As Castro demoed the DB Snatch must reach eye level before changing hands and the burpee is now a 2-foot kickback/ forward to complete the standard.

I am not sold on the dumbbell change. Honestly, I do not see much of a difference in the movement. But for the burpee I can see this being a serious game changer! For smaller bodyweight/gymnastics guys like me I enjoy burpees in the sense I can do them fast. But when trying to keep a good pace the step up or back is vital for me keeping my HR down.

I hope CrossFit continues to evolve its movements so it can keep some overall uniformity in the competition setting.:thanx:

Ulnar Nerve Lesion

samedi 20 janvier 2018

Got a diagnosis of ulnar nerve snapping and lesion from orthopedic doctor. I get numbness in pinkie and ring finger with bent arm positions after 10-20 minutes.

General orthopedic doctor recommended surgery. Sent me to a hand specialist who said if the numbness is decreasing then surgery is not necessary, if it increases then he suggests surgery. Nerve test was unremarkable. Neither doctor recommended physical therapy. General orthopedic said it doesn't correct the problem.

I have a history of tendinosis in both elbows. I waited a year to get back to the gym, then increased loads 10 lbs per 2 weeks as recommended by orthopedic doctor. I did a workout with 150 lb bench press and felt tingling and pain in the elbows hours later. More tingling and pain followed for the next 3 months. Ultrasound showed "nerve" from the doctor's comments. Also had pain in the fingers for 2-3 months after massaging my tight shins.

I want to get back to the gym and did a lot of stretching and myofascial release work. Haven't tried nerve flossing yet. My form during my last gym 150 lb workout was sloppy. I started to do 10 sets of 10 pushup workouts at home with strict form where I twist arms into the floor on the way down and stretch floor sideways on the way up to make sure muscles are turned on. There is sometimes very subtle tingling the next day.

I want to avoid surgery and am looking for advice on avoiding tendon and nerve damage with increased intensity workouts. My orthopedic doctor said bench press with my condition should limit the range of motion, bar should stop around 5 inches from chest.

What other form tricks should be followed? What kind of routine should I follow? How many days a week, how many reps, sets per workout would be optimal to repair the damaged tendon?

Level II looking for a possiblities

vendredi 19 janvier 2018

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a Lvl II instructor with a lot of time coaching. I have over 10 years of active coaching in different areas and coming up on over 7 years of active CrossFit involvement. I was the senior coach at my first gym at and lead that for 2 1/2 years. Recently just moved back to MN from TX where I was also a senior coach for a year.

I moved back to start my own facility but after a few hiccups and some disagreements, my partner and I have decided to go different ways. This is unfortunate but also trying to look at this as a blessing in disguise. I have a lot of personal clientele that currently wants to use my services but lacks the space and availability to do most of it... for now.

Since things went sideways I have wondered what kind of opportunities are out there in the CrossFit world?!?! I recently applied for CrossFit 340 in the Virgin Islands and think that would be a really cool thing to do! I've only been to USVI once and I was very young. Getting a bit older I see how interesting that could be coaching there. I'm having a ton of searching coming up with places all over but wondering if I could limit the amount of back and forth I'm doing on searches:run: and see if anyone in here has, or knows of any opportunities for a Lvl II coach?

I've seen in the past people wanting to travel and coach. I'm seeing if I can fulfill 2 birds with one stone. I want to see what other communities are out there, how I can continue to learn as a coach, meet new people and make new friends, and see if opportunities continue to build.

If you have any questions for me personally feel free to ask!

Thanks:pepper:
