I've done crossfit wod on and off for several years now. I've also been watching the crossfit games for several years to and I am sure the athletes do a lot more than just the workout of the day. How do you add crossfit to your workout routine? Do you do the workout of the day and possibly add more? I'm wondering how these guys train to get in that kind of shape. I know they are most likely not natural and have youth on their side.
HOw do YOU add crossfit to your workout?
BrandX Scaling or other decent scaled programming?
Hi,
Does the BrandX scaling still exist? I've been away for a long time. Looks at the current BrandX site but cant find a correlation between the daily WODS.
There is still no local affiliate where I live (boggles my mind), so I'm getting the garage gym back up and running. I havent done active Crossfit in probably 3 years so I'm basically starting from scratch.
Can someone point me in the right direction for decent scaled, getting back into crossfit programming?
Thank you!

Summer High School Athletic Training, How to Sell it?
Hello all! I am in the process of marketing my a "summer training" program to the athletic director of a small local high school. Before I get into the nitty gritty of writing this presentation, hyping the benefits of CrossFit, etc, I was hoping that there was something already written out there that I could borrow from. Anyone? Suggestions?

Non-Profit- Giving Back through CrossFit
jeudi 26 mai 2016
After much soul searching on what my life's purpose is I have decided to start a non-profit charity organization (501(c)(3) status pending) with a mission to give back to worthy charitable causes both locally and globally through the use of CrossFit (presented by CrossFit Healthy Nut).
We also aim to spread awareness on the scalability of CrossFit and how it can be incorporated into everyones life, regardless of how good of shape you are in or not in.
How it works......
1. We work with companies looking to make a positive impact on society both locally and globally.
2. We design 4 WODS all to be completed within a 1 hour time cap.
3. 1st WOD is done with either company donor or receiving cause representative and then they watch the other 3 WODS as a fan.
4. The Goal is to accumulate as many reps as possible for the 4 WODS within a 1 hr time cap.
Each rep = $ that the company will donate to the current supported cause.
This is not a 1 time event. We will do this on a continual basis and support multiple causes. All events will be broadcasted Live on Facebook. Viewers online will also get a chance to donate towards the cause by purchasing a support t-shirt along with other fundraising opportunities.
What I ask of you is to just give this page a 'Like' and stay tuned for more information as website and intro video will be dropping soon.
http://ift.tt/25knsZn
Also if you are interested we are a new organization so we are definitely looking for volunteers to help with the cause!

Looking for a shoe recommendation
mercredi 25 mai 2016
Sorry, meant to post this in the equipment section. Moved to there.
Looking for a shoe recommendation
Looking for shoe input and suggestions
I realize how subjective this all is, so I'm just looking for your thoughts.
In our recent move one of my shoes disappeared. I've been training in my chucks, but I'm ready to get a better workout shoe again. I'm torn between the Metcon 1, Nano 5 or Nano 2. What are your suggestions?
Previous experience, I liked my Metcon 1s, I liked my Nano 2s and I hated the Nano 3. Never got the 4 or 5.
The reason I'm not looking at the Metcon 2 is because I just don't want to pay $130 for what is mostly the same shoe as the first one. I am curious to hear your opinions on the Nano 5 though as I've heard good things about them.

This far into the season and I have heard no talk of a new nano coming out. Anyone know anything about a 6.0 or something else?

Mobility Reference Material
lundi 23 mai 2016
Hey folks,
We structure things using 8x of what we call "Value Units".
Discrete vehicles for adding value to our new clients.
C1 - Strength
C2 - Conditioning
C3 - Skills
X4 - Mobility
X5 - Recovery
X6 - Education
S7 - Community
S8 - Experience
We've spent the last 12 months or so, dialling in a lot of this curriculum, but an area where we definitely lack is in mobility.
We'd like to progress to the point where, using our custom database software, we prescribe individual mobility prescriptions for each new member as easily and as reasonably expertly as possible.
But I'm struggling to find a trusted resource / reference...
Can anyone make any suggestions that I can look into, and perhaps why you recommend them.
Much appreciated.
Cheers
Sean

Not sure if anyone from HQ is reading these boards anymore, but just a heads up -- as of 5/20/16, the mainsite's security certificate is expired and could be causing some rendering issues.

Hey guys,
I was wondering if you have experiences with special population doing Crossfit. I.e. Parkinson's disease, MS,...
We are convinced that Crossfit would be beneficial for them, but were wondering which boxes run some classes and what their experiences are.

Booking systems - 3rd party like Mindbody or make your own
jeudi 19 mai 2016
Hi
I have used Mindbody for a while now and due to my location overseas it's not been great. I can't use the in-built purchasing system so we only use it for class bookings and cancellations.
Has anyone built a custom made booking/purchasing/scheduling window into their website? Costs? Advice?

Stall mats dirty or not?
lundi 16 mai 2016
Need to find flooring so decided on stall mats like everybody suggests...noticed a review on the tractor store website saying no matter how much they've cleaned them, they turn hands and clothes black....the worker at store said they get many returns because of this.....so I did find a few people complaining of this online but I found many people saying no problems with them.....so does this happen until you clean them enough?......I do not want to go through the hassle of buying these and be stuck with this headache. How many people actually have had this as an ongoing issue

Heel Not Resting Flat on Ground
Hi all,
I wasn't exactly sure how to title this or where to post it, but I have an interesting situation that I am thinking could be a tight Achilles of calf muscle. When sitting in a chair with my feet on the ground, my right heel up through my toes is flat and planted. However, looking at my left foot, I see my heel is perhaps a few centimeters off the ground and I have to force it down to have my heel touch the ground.
The pressure through my feet allows for my right heel to stay down and have pressure through the entire base. My left foot, however, seems to rotate a little to the point where the inside part of the heel comes off the ground. Again, needing to be forced down to have pressure through the entire left heel.
I'm trying to determine what this could be caused from and what to do to have the entire heel sit flat like my right heel, without needing to be forced down to feel stability through the entire heel.
Again, this happens just while sitting, so it is translating into issues with my squat.
Thank you for the help!
Adam

Always getting injured by deadlifting
samedi 14 mai 2016
Hi all! Would really love some feedback...
I've been doing CrossFit for over 8 years, and have been coaching and / or running an affiliate for about 6 years and have always struggled with deadlifting. Ever since starting CrossFit, I've been pretty good at it, especially the engine heavy met-cons like "Fran", "Helen", "Jackie", etc. even on workouts like "Diane" with 225# deadlifts, I can do them all unbroken. 2 years ago, I was doing a workout with 315# deadlifts and I herniated my L5/S1 disc. It was awful. A fews before surgery, it started getting better and over the next 5 months or so, I got back to 100%. I brought deadlifts back into my workouts slowly and steadily. About 2 months ago we had deadlifts programmed and felt really good and went to 295. (I'm 5' 10" and weigh 180# BTW). Again, something happened and I have been nursing a back injury for 2 months.
I'm CrossFit L-2 and can teach the deadlift very well, and form doesn't seem to be my problem. I know my limitations and would never pull with a rounded / overextended back. This last time I got hurt, I had two other coaches watching and videoing my deadlifts. There were no major mechanical errors. I felt fine after doing them, but about 24 hours later the pain started in.
I've never been able to deadlift over 375#.
Now, as I'm finally getting back to normal, I'd love some feedback on strengthening my deadlift. Had anylne dealt with this before? Are my hamstrings what need to be strengthened? My lower back? What accessory work should I be doing? (I have a GHD machine in my garage). Should I start on a very light and simple deadlifting program to build up slowly?
Thanks everyone!

Elbow pain
vendredi 13 mai 2016
Guys/gals
I have been suffering from discomfort when in full flexion in my right elbow. It doesn't really hurt when hand is flexed back towards my face, but rather when the hand is rotated so knuckles are facing forwards. Feel it when I pick up my son to.
It isn't the Bicep, but seems to the tendons right in the elbow. I don't do many of any curls, but empty bar high rep curls give some relief (blood into the area), but it returns.
Thoughts?

Plantar Fasciitis
I started Crossfit in 2009. About a year later I developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot. After about a year of constantly searching and trying different rehabilitative techniques (like ball rolling and taping) as well as not doing box jumps, skipping, etc. it went away and I was able to do all those things again, even running. I want to add that I visited multiple medical practitioners like Chiropractors, physiotherapist, Osteopaths, etc...
I was good for a while, but in January 2014 it came back. I was wearing inov-8 shoes (very minimalist) while running on an indoor oval track. The pain came back worse than the 1st time I had it. Once again I've tried many different therapies including visiting Chiropractors, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, taping, rolling, icing, heat...pretty much everything. I went to see my doctor a few weeks ago and we had an x-ray and ultrasound done. Results came back that I have bilateral plantar fasciitis and a small heel spur.
I'm at a loss now as I don't know what to do or where to turn to. It's been nearly 2.5 years. I'd like to add that its a constant pain, but some days are better than others depending on what I did that day or the day before. i've been wearing orthotics and I think they help some days, while not so much on other days.
In addition, this pain has obviously made me walk somewhat unbalanced and now my knee and hip are starting to feel the strain. If I don't resolve this issue I'm worried everything will get worse.
I think I need to find a specialist but I don't know what to look for. I live in Ontario so if anyone has a suggestion I would be very appreciative.

Get your grubby little hands off my industry
jeudi 12 mai 2016
OK, so the title is a little inflammatory...but what can I say, I'm slightly right of Genghis Kahn.
The Affordable Care Act is looking at funding "lifestyle intervention", where the 86 million Americans who suffer from Pre-Diabetes can receieve funding to attend nutritional and physical activity classes / courses etc.
Now don't get me wrong, Pre Diabetes is a medical catastrophy for sure, but my beleif is the governments track record when it gets involved in solving problems is abysmal. I beleive the government should be a place that leads but does not do, and for good reason.
It doesn't take a genuis to see the 2nd and 3rd level consequences of a massive bottomless revenue stream entering our market...
Thoughts?

age and lifts
I see a lot of older folks on the Facebook CF Masters page that lift some really heavy stuff. Crazy heavy. I'm 49, been doing CrossFit since 2012 and I'm at 350 lbs back squat, 400 lbs deadlift (what's up with that?) and only 215 lbs for bench. I can power clean 175 lbs. Been doing Wendler most of this time. My clean and snatch are works on progress. I'd love to get a 400 lb back squat and a 500 lb deadlift and a 300 lb bench, but with my current programming I don't know how I'm gonna get there as I've been at these numbers for a year. I have been on a cut since October and I've lost about 20 lbs (I weigh about 220) and I'm sure that has something to do with it (don't make fun of me). I see folks smaller than me with bigger numbers and I want to get there. Should I be satisfied with my current numbers?

Its been a minute....
A lot has happened since my last post here. A lot! I had a career in oil and gas project management, so things have been rocky for the past year and a half. So now I am in the midst of a career change and I am working on a degree in economics. Only working off-and-on for the last 18 months has meant more time with my family, so some good has come of things.
Now, I am starting to get more focused on who I am. School is good, back at work, just went to Hawaii. Life is starting to turn around!
So its time to get back to the gym. I had started a blog to track progress, but I never felt as accountable to myself with that as I did here, hence the new log.
For the first time in years I have gotten used to not going to the gym, finally pushed myself back tonight!

Milt's Log II
A lot has happened since my last post here. A lot! I had a career in oil and gas project management, so things have been rocky for the past year and a half. Internship? Ventura or LA county
I have been doing Crossfit on my own for sometime now and was looking if any gym owners had an apprentice/intern program. It's always been a dream to be a trainer and coach and one day open a gym. Seeing if there were any out there with someone learns and shadows but yet works for you.. Front desk, cleaning, social media etc
If so, please pm me or email at Craig.bravman@gmail.com

Box Jumps?
vendredi 6 mai 2016
It is interesting that we did not see any box jumps in the Open or Regionals this year. There are burpee box jump overs at Regionals (where you have to clear the box completely with your jump), but not the traditional jump where you would normally see athletes rebounding to increase cycle time. I wonder if this was intentional so big name athletes did not run the risk of an Achilles tear. Or maybe it was just an oversight. Thoughts?

Alternatives to TKR
I have been hearing that there are some new procedures that are alternatives to having a total knee replacement. Has anyone heard about any of these? I've looked on the internet, but haven't come up with much. One of the had something to do with minimally invasive placement of placental tissue in place of meniscus. Anything, anyone?

Improving MetCon
dimanche 1 mai 2016
Hi guys, I'm a 26yo guy, 170cm by 78/79kg. I am relatively strong (110kg c&j, 90kg snatch, 165kg back squat, 195kg deadlift, 121kg bench press) but I'm really weak in metcon terms; I start really well but I burnout after 30 seconds and I need to rest really frequently. One reason could be that since I'm born I suffer thalassemia but I do not think it is a major issue, it can easily just be an excuse :) .
I always try to avoid to face this isse it but I've reached a point in which it is starting to **** me off.
I want to develop my skills and I thought about doing 2/3 times a week some sprints (rowing/running/assault bike) starting with 15s on and 30 off for 6 rounds increasing slowly until I reach something like 20 rounds 30s on and 30s off.
I did something similar in the past when I was doing thai boxe and it worked really well but I never applied it to crossfit.
Do you have any better suggestions? Is there maybe any online crossfit program with this goal? (something like crossfitweightlifting.com but for metcon)
