xfit and chondropathy

vendredi 29 juillet 2016

Hi everybody,

I'm a traditional martial arts practitioner from Rome - Italy who trained in crossfit for one year only but fell in love with the system. Unfortunately the sharp shape of my tibia and a valgus knee lead me to a 3rd degree chondropathy to my left knee.
I'm kinda desperate, and in need of suggestion.

Is there any way to continue in crossfit? How should I adapt all the heavy loads and squat type exercises in order to have a balanced training / body?

Thank you all in advance!

Rich or Matt?

mercredi 27 juillet 2016

Sure Matt has a few more years to prove himself but this year was dominant and against people who gave Rich a go. I believe it gets harder each year to win the games but basically 200 more points ahead makes a statement. Rich has 7 years of victory basically without any real injuries that I have heard of? We will see if Matt can stay healthy and stay on top. Might be another person out of nowhere that comes up but right now he is staying the champ for a while.

Who wins the battle head on Matt or Rich?

Sadly they had them together at the Ranch.. silly repeat of a silly workout that Matt smoked him on.. much shorter so had the advantage.

I pick Matt right now because that is all that he focuses on. Rich has a wife and kid, gym, team..

Taubea Funded Study Actually Disproves Carb-Insulin Hypothesis

dimanche 24 juillet 2016

In an effort to prove the carb-insulin hypothesis that Gary Taubes and others tout, they funded a study in a metabolic ward that ended up going against their hypothesis. A good breakdown is below

cheesecake/fat free cream cheese

dimanche 17 juillet 2016

I'd like to make the following cheesecake recipe :

12oz Fat Free Philadelphia Cream Cheese
10oz Plain Greek Yogurt
2 Whole Eggs
1-2 Tbsp Stevia
¼ Cup Milk
1.5 Scoops Whey Protein
1tsp Vanilla Extract
Dash Salt

However, I can't find fat free cream cheese in the UK.
All I can find is Philadelphia Lightest which has 2.5g of fat per 100g and seems to be termed a soft cheese. Could I sub this in?
I can get low fat quark? Can this be subbed in for cream cheese?
Thanks

Programming for competition

samedi 16 juillet 2016

Been doing Crossfit for about 3 years now. Last 2 years have been following the free WODs posting on Crossfit Mayhem. I turned 40 last year and have been actively competing in local/regional events. I have a 4 man masters team event in 2 months and wanted to change my programming to better prepare me for this competition. I have all the standards available. Mayhem is currently focusing on some strength cycles which are fine but I wanted to up the intensity/volume a little for this competition so I peak at the right time. No local coaches are much help. Anyone have any luck with setting up personal programming online? Really want someone to focus me on the specific exercises and with a team emphasis. Thanks for the help.

Have people seen this?

jeudi 14 juillet 2016

http://ift.tt/29zylQD

Personally think that its a bad idea to get guns involved in Crossfit. Especially with what is going on in the US right now. Like the article says Crossfit would not sign up Soda, Smokes etc.. why this one.

I really hope that they change their minds and think about the responsibility that the gun would have. Seriously bad decision and hope that for once HQ un winds that deal that they made.

Post surgery tips

mercredi 13 juillet 2016

I am about to have a pretty major hip surgery, I was told I would be out for 8-12months. It was nothing I did or could have prevented, just something I was born with. My question is what should I change my macro percentages to help with my diet since I won't be working out that much if at all for a little bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

5.11 TacTec Vest Issues

lundi 11 juillet 2016

Ok, so was looking at weight vests lately, and was intrigued by the TacTec after seeing them in the Games Murph WOD last year. But, I was put off by the price, so I waited. For Father's Day, I was visiting 5.11's site, and noticed they had everything 20% off, so pulled the trigger, and ordered the plates from Rogue.

Well, after getting everything, I'm highly confused. Can anyone comment on how the plates are installed? Is the vest directly from 5.11 different than the one from Rogue?

I tried to attach pics, but gave up after trying to resize, and then reduce size...ugh.

So, the problem I'm facing is that with the plate pushed all the way up into the vest, there are two vertical straps with Velcro on the end, that should wrap around the bottom of the plate, and then attach to the horizontal strips on the opposite side of the inside of the plate compartment. The problem is, that by the time the Velcro locks together, there is about one inch of space between the bottom of the plate and the webbing, so the plate slides down an inch or more when putting the vest on.

I gave up on it after messing with it for over an hour, thinking I must just not be strapping it up correctly. Just thought I'd ask here, as I assume someone has this vest.

the problem is I can only find the adidas shoes, the crossfit lite tr I can't seem to find it anywhere, anyone know of a place (even online) where to buy them? I'm only seeing women's

building a platform to account for grade in a garage

vendredi 8 juillet 2016

hey guys

in the process of buying a newly built house, the garage has a drain in the middle with the grade of the garage angling towards it, wondering if anyone has insight on how to make a lifting platform that is level in there, don't want barbells rolling all over the place (into my wifes car). I have considered just sticking a few pieces of board under the low edges but that would create an unsupported area in the middle and I dunno if that would break.

thanks

Again Faster KB's

jeudi 7 juillet 2016

Unbeknowst to me AF changed ownership or whatever.

Anyone know who manufactured their Team bells. I love the form factor, but that said makes them weird to use with other shaped bells. Anyone know who made them or maybe offers that build perchance. TIA

Website to connect garage gyms

I remember reading a thread about this when I had first joined this forum. But has anyone heard of any place connecting people with garage gyms to each other? I figured this would be a cool way to connect travelling crossfitters, or crossfitters who don't go to an affiliate but instead workout in their garage. If anyone has heard of something like this please let me know, if not I'm thinking of creating something of the sort.:thanx:

2016 Games Banter...starting off with Murph

lundi 4 juillet 2016

So, Murph again. I can't say I'm excited as it isn't the most entertaining to watch, but it will show who has been putting in the work. If you watched the 2015 documentary Justin J made a very good point. Most athletes will be able to tell you their Fran, Helen, Diane... time to the second whereas a lot know their Murph time to the minute or couple minutes. Plus, they may not be bringing quite the intensity when it comes to workouts like this.

I have a feeling this is going to hurt as much as last year.

Fringe Econo GHD

Anybody used the Fringe Sports Econo GHD?

It looks solid with exception of the foot holder, it rocks back and forth. Probably could use rectangle tubing instead of square to fix that, but otherwise it looks solid for $399 shipped.

I actually think their even cheaper econo one looks better to me but it doesn't have a split pad... and I haven't seen them side by side.

Training a kid with autism

dimanche 3 juillet 2016

My 4 year old got diagnosed with autism last summer. Thinking I wanna get him out in the garage gym to keep him active. Was gonna put him in a crossfit kids class but non of the gyms around here run classes for kids that young. I do have my level 1 and a few certs and ran the crossfit club for my military unit so I do have coaching experience. Anyone have experience training a kid with special needs. Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Home Equipment

samedi 2 juillet 2016

I am starting to build up my gym and it looks like I have a few more bucks to spend for now. I do have some medical concerns, and I will have to limit somethings like Box Jumps, running in the heat, actually just working out in the heat. This is one major reason I am building an area to work out at home that is Air conditioned.

What I have already gathered, ordered or have planned.

12X8 platform/workout area, center will be nice plywood to mount rack and have a lifting area. The two sides will be 4X8 areas to have enough room to do different Movements. My room is 13X10.

Titan T3 HD short rack, should be here today
400+ pound bumper set from Vulcan, I'll probably need some more weight soon
Vulcan Change plates
Vulcan Standard Olympic Bar 28.5mm
Nice wooden Olympic rings ( forget brand, but they have nice numbered straps and some good looking well reviewed rings)
Building some Plyo boxes, might as well break out my Woodworking tools
Basic personal gear, Abmat, jump rope

Things I am considering

Medicine ball set, most probably 14lb and 20lb for now (looking at RepFitness)
Kettlebells, I really like the American Barbell models, thinking 35, 45, 55 lbs plus something for the wife, I rarely have gone heavier on a KB
Bench... I never use a bench for bench press, I had a fancy Body Solid bench that was too big, too tall, and just in the way at my previous house. Just a basic flat bench maybe... there is a cheap adidas bench that gets good reviews, not paying $300 for something that is going to rarely get used, probably will be a seat more than anything else.

I really want a GHD but DO not want to put out the money for what they ask for these days. $600 for a basic GHD is highway robbery. Maybe the NYBB one is good enough. These things use to be CHEAP. Before Crossfit was big I bought a commercial one for a couple hundred bucks when I purchased my previous Rack. (this was YEARS ago, items have been sold by now)

Any suggestions. I guess I have about $1000 to spend on top of what I already have or have ordered.

I don't have room indoors for a rope, might get one in the fall for outside, wall ball shots are going to be interesting with an 8ft ceiling.
